Fair warning–mommy blog entry to follow …
Shane discovered shadows for the first time tonight. He kept asking me, “What’s that?” and pointing to my shadow on the back of the rocking chair. When I finally realized what he was looking at, I told him “That’s my shadow.”
“Oh,” he said, “There’s talking coming from there.” He noticed that when I spoke, the shadow moved, and as we were talking, he realized, “I have one too!” and pointed at another shadow that wasn’t actually his, but close enough.
“Yup,” I said, “You have one too. Everyone has a shadow,” and then he just rattled off:
“I have one, and daddy has one, and Aunt Toni has one, and my crib has one …”
And I just sat there mesmerized, watching him look at all the shadows on the wall, trying to imagine what it must be like–to have been–so young, and not understanding what a shadow is, yet discovering one for the first time.
